We are pleased to share positive progress on the redevelopment of the King George V Community Centre. Yesterday, representatives from Swain Architecture, Davlyn Construction (contractor), Armsons Barlow (project manager) and members of the local community met on-site to review current progress. We are delighted to confirm that the project is on schedule.
While collaboration with our contractor has been excellent so far, we believe the true success of this project will be measured when the doors open—and the community feels proud of a centre that reflects its needs, values and identity. This is your centre, and your sense of ownership remains at the heart of everything we do.
Next Steps
- Roof works begin next week.
- Due to increased costs and budget constraints, the renovation will now be delivered in two phases.
- Despite this, the centre will still open as planned in December.
Café & Community Involvement
To reduce costs, the kitchen will remain in its existing location rather than being relocated to the storage area facing the pitches. While this is not the original plan, we believe—with community support—we can still create a welcoming and functional café space.
The café will be an essential income source to help sustain the centre long-term. Although its opening now aligns with the December launch rather than summer, we see this as an opportunity for community-led development.
We warmly invite volunteers to help shape and run the café. Full training and support will be provided.
